1. In 1868 the first bicycle went on sale. The bone shaker as it was known was made from wrought iron, had wooden wheels and iron tyres. It weighed over 80kg!

3. There are currently over 1 billion bikes in the world.

5. A 10 mile bike ride will burn 360 calories. Save you about 7 pounds in fuel and car maintenance costs. It will also save the environment from 5 kg’s of Carbon Dioxide emissions produced by a car.

6. The first person to cycle around the world was, Fred A. Birchmore. He pedalled 25,000 miles, and the other 15,000 miles he was in a boat.

7. There are twice as many bikes in the world than cars.

8. The largest bicycle in the world had a wheel diameter of 3.3 metres!

9. Cycling is scientifically proven to be the most energy efficient way a human can move.

10. Women who walk or bike 30 minutes a day have a lower risk of breast cancer
