Bike clubs… Yes or No?

So I’ve fallen back in love with cycling after 20 years. Every cyclist out there will understand the comradeship between cyclists. That nod of recognition as you cycle down the road, that cyclist who’s in his car that keeps more aware and gives more room to his 2 wheeled comrades.

Well if your friends don’t enjoy cycling, or you’ve started alone and want to cycle with others. What about a bike club?

Let’s have a look how to cycle with others. If you’ve got any tips or club recommendations, comment below.

Google

So let’s google cycling clubs/mountain bike clubs near me using google…

The first thing google did was ask to use my location, the search results then threw back some things.

Britishcycling.org.uk this site looked pretty good, as I scrolled down it also provided a link on how to find a local MTB centre. Here is the link.

I scrolled down further and it tried to encourage me to sign up. Well I’m not that interested in spending more money, so let’s move on…

Google second try

So I then googled Cycle clubs in Kent (where I live), more specific results came up. I also found myself in cyclechat.net, this seemed to be a good forum where like minded cyclists chat about clubs, trails etc.

Anyway so google was ok, let’s try something else..

Google Maps

So I searched for cycle clubs in google maps…

As you can see this worked pretty well. I could look at cycle clubs near my current location.

I could also click on them and read information and reviews from people.

This seemed a good way of finding local clubs. Also as you met with these people I’m sure you’d hear about others local clubs and events.

Finding clubs through apps.

So most of us use Strava, this is a fantastic way to find local clubs.

On Strava you can click on the explore icon within the map and then click clubs. It will bring up popular clubs near to you, where you can then join. Converse with other members and attend meets and events l.

You can see below I am a member of the Palace to Palace bike ride. Here I can see other club members, post and engage, talk about the upcoming event to raise money for charity and other cool benefits.

So after 30 minutes I’ve found two easy ways to find local bike clubs in your area. If you have a great club, or a good way of finding local clubs comment below.
